The event will be based off a 40m2 platform permanently moored at 160m of water 1,3 miles off the beachfront of the venue hotel. Three motorized counterballast systems will be used for the main dive lines capable of lifting divers at speeds of 2m/s or faster in case of emergency. Two high resolution sonars will be operating on the platform and the dive boat, giving detailed real time information on the diver’s progress.
Traditional counter-ballast system will be available as back up as well as safety scuba on the surface. A fully equipped hospital with an ER is located in the city of Kalamata 15 minutes from our dive location, via our rapid evacuation boat. Medical Staff and Lifeguards will be available on location to assist in cases of serious incidents.
Evacuation will be to Kalamata Harbour approximately 4 minutes from the dive location were a fully equipped ambulance will be on standby, to take any athlete requiring treatment, to the Kalamata Hospital (6 minute drive from the port). O2 will be available for cases requiring it and decompression O2 will be available on the dive location. Dry area boats will be available for athletes wishing to warm up dry. 8-10 Warm up lines will be available.
The Freediving Club safety team comprises of 12 experienced and specifically trained professional competition safety divers with an extensive background of safety diving in AIDA depth competitions.
The above setup and crew have been used in the 2011 AIDA Depth World Championships and the very successful Mediterranean World Cup competitions. All factors (team, location, safety procedures, equipment and co-ordination) have been tested and are known to work properly with large numbers of athletes (140+ divers per day). It should be noted that using the above setup throughout the 25 days of the 2011 AIDA Depth World Championships no delays or incidents occurred that affected the normal progress of the competition.
Based on past experience we expect that during the proposed dates for the 2013 AIDA Individual Depth World Championships sea conditions are going to be favorable (September is traditionally a month of calm seas in the area). Water temperature is expected to be between 25C and 28C and visibility will be around 30-35m. As experienced during the 2011 AIDA World Championships little or no currents affect the dive site we will be using.
Organized and supervised training will be available from Sunday Sept 1st 2013.
The proposed venue for the 2013 Individual AIDA Depth World Championships is the Messinian Bay Resort Hotel. This is a 4-star resort hotel capable of housing 170 athletes / coaches / officials in total during the World Championships. The hotel has 2 pools which will be available for use by the athletes, a private beach, pier, beach-side and pool-side restaurants, free high speed WiFi and all amenities needed to host the event. All meetings will be run in one of the 2 specially equipped meeting halls of the hotel. All rooms have balconies and magnificent sea views.

Kalamata is easily accessible from most European countries, has in place all necessary media infrastructure and the municipality have an active interest to promote this event on a
national, regional and international scale. We expect with the experience gained from the 2011 AIDA Individual World Championships to be able to offer a significant media presence for the event.
The city of Kalamata can be reached by flights (regular and charter) from many European cities. Nearest airport is Kalamata Int Airport (KLX). Shuttle flights are also available from Athens Int Airport as are buses connecting Athens to Kalamata. Free return buses to Athens Airport will be arranged after the end of the event.
Other Considerations – Political Situation in Greece
It is known that Greece is currently undergoing significant political changes and financial difficulties. This however does not in any way affect the stability or safety in the country and can in no way affect the running of the AIDA Individual World Championships. As is obvious by the above budget the proposed event is in no way dependent on government / public funding or support. If anything the current financial situation might force the venue hotels to reduce their prices on our second round of price negotiations which will be carried out after successful award of the organization of this event by AIDA International. Any further reductions in costs will be communicate to AIDA Nationals and will benefit the athletes.
